Purpose, challenge and response.

Overview

Adoption Matters is a children's charity and voluntary adoption agency. Established in 1947, it recruits, prepares and supports adopters, and works with local authorities and regional adoption agencies across England to find stable, loving families for children who cannot live with their birth families.

The challenge

Adoption is not a single event. Many children waiting for a family have experienced early trauma, loss or disrupted care. Adoptive parents, foster carers and professionals need practical, trauma-informed knowledge before placement and dependable specialist support long afterwards.

How it responds

Alongside its adoption service, Adoption Matters runs the Centre for Fostering and Adoption Support. Its multidisciplinary team provides therapeutic social work, occupational therapy, consultations, support packages, training and services for adopted adults seeking access to their records.
