Purpose, challenge and response.

Overview

Founded in 1976 by King Charles III, then The Prince of Wales, The King's Trust supports young people facing disadvantage and barriers to education, employment and enterprise. Its programmes combine practical skills, mentoring and sustained support.

The challenge

Youth unemployment is rarely a single problem. Poverty, disrupted education, poor mental health, disability and social exclusion can narrow a young person's choices and make the first step into work or enterprise especially difficult.

How it responds

The Trust delivers education, employment and enterprise programmes, directly and with partners. The approach is practical: building skills and confidence, supporting a route into work, and helping young founders test and launch an idea.

Our relationship.

At seventeen, Michael received a £500 grant from The Prince's Trust to back his first business. It was early evidence that someone believed in what he could build.

He has since supported the charity as a long-term donor and Patron. A meeting room carries The Welch Trust's name, and Michael serves on the Advisory Board of The King's Trust USA, where he is Co-Chair of its Alumni Council.
